OK--to cut to the chase, here's my proposal. In this country, morality seems always to take a back seat to the possiblity of making a buck. Money talks, as we’ve said throughout our history. So a deal with the scurrilous, sportswashing, super-rich Saudis I guess will have to be. So keep the deal intact, if they must, but...keep control of golf completely in the hands of the PGA and DP World Tour. If LIV players want to return to the PGA Tour, the principle condition, given money and greed are paramount, is that they forfeit 75% of the initial carrot stick LIV granted them back to the PGA Tour. That money will be distributed equally to all PGA players who turned down LIV offers initially.
Mr. Monahan, the PGA’s hypocrite supreme, you wanted this Deal about the money that will sustain the Tour, then let's keep it about the money, as I've proposed above. If the deal falls through and doesn't happen, my condition might still dissuade PGA players from baling to LIV. Without such a condition, there might well be a mass exodus of top players to LIV, assuming LIV wants them. Few will want to pass up a second chance to set themselves and their families up for a lifetime of financial security. Forget about the history, integrity, and honor always associated with the ancient game of golf.
That's my ironclad condition for return. There should be other conditions, as well, which may well include a five-year suspension of participation in major tournaments for LIV players, assuming the Majors will go along with this. The LIV Tour will continue to be denied World Ranking Points. Makes no sense to grant such points for 54-hole, no-cut, limited-field, short-pants, rock music-infused, team-play, guaranteed millions-for all players. We really needn't disturb the graves of Wee Bobby, Ben, Byron, Francis, Arnold, Harry, and, of course, Old Tom Morris.
Without more details to The Deal, at the moment, I'll stop here. Time to wait and see how this all shakes out, don't you think.
Suffice to say, The Deal was ill-conceived, pre-mature, secretive, and impulsive, and possibly the worst thing for professional golf since the day LIV announced its inception.
